21+ policy
Bird & Betty’s deck is 21+ on Friday, Saturday, some Sundays, and the 4th of July week. The time may vary depending on the crowds, but it can be as early as 4 p.m.
Our entire buildinG may also be 21+ on those days. However, we reserve the right to limit our deck or the whole building to 21+ anytime. This is for the safety of our guests and to protect our liquor licenses by preventing underage drinking. It is always best to call and ask beforehand. Reservations are for the downstairs only, and underage guests may dine with their families before 7 pm on weekends and holidays. We do not take reservations for the deck, and no one under 21 can go on the waitlist or sit at a table on the deck for dinner once we are 21+. During all other times, we welcome Families!
Bird & Betty’s age & ID policies:
Bird & Betty’s ID policy follows the guidelines of New Jersey’s stringent ABC laws.
Anyone wishing to drink on our premises must have a valid ID, regardless of age. Once we are 21+, everyone must have an ID to enter the building.
ID cannot be determined by phone or email. The appearance of the person presenting the ID must be compared to the ID given by the individual. Since appearances change, carrying a second photo ID is always a good idea.
Accepted Forms of Identification:
Valid (not expired) Driver’s License / Other identification from the NJ Division of MotorVehicles (ID only): If a driver’s license has been changed, is a duplicate, or if the identification checker is not sure that the individual presenting the identification is the person who is pictured on the identification, a secondary (back up) photo identification is required. If the license has expired within one month of entry and you have renewed online but have not received your new license, please bring the renewal confirmation.
Passport (not passport card): Under NJ State law, a passport that appears altered in any way or if the individual presenting the identification does not look like the person on the passport photo cannot be accepted.
Passports obtained before an individual’s 18th birthday are typically not accepted. This is because the photo on the passport is unlikely to resemble the individual presenting it due to the length of time elapsed since the photo was taken.
Regardless of age, since any passport photo can be several years old, it is recommended that you bring a secondary photo identification (with a more recent photo) if your appearance has changed. Again, it is against State law to accept any identification from anyone the identification checker does not reasonably believe is the person presenting the identification.
The below may be used as secondary (backup) identification to help convince the ID checker that the individual presenting the Driver’s License or passport is the individual presenting it.
- County ID card with photo
- Military ID with photo
- College ID with photo
- Credit card, debit card, or bank card with photo
- NJDMV boat license with photo.
- Other acceptable forms of ID include medical cards, international ID cards, firearms ID cards, police, fire, and EMS ID cards; all must have photos.
- Please note: Badges are not an acceptable form of ID.
The bottom line is that if you do not have a valid photo driver’s license or passport with a recent photo that still looks like you, please bring as much backup ID as possible.
Miscellaneous:
- Anyone believed to be visibly intoxicated or otherwise impaired will be denied entry.
- If anyone in your group presents a fake ID, your entire party may be denied entry.
- Anyone acting in a manner that suggests they will cause a disturbance on the premises will be denied entry.
- Anyone verbally abusing our staff or other customers will be denied entry. Be kind.
- If you are rude to staff or customers, start a fight, do drugs, are repeatedly over-intoxicated, try to sneak in, present a fake ID, pass off an ID or drink to an underage minor, or act like a butthead in any way, you may be permanently banned from not only Bird & Betty’s but all Tide Table restaurants.
Bird & Betty’s business depends on admitting customers, not keeping them out. NJ’s state laws and enforcement by local and state police are stringent. We cannot and will not jeopardize our liquor license and the jobs of our team because a customer did not prepare and obtain proper ID before visiting the establishment.
We do hope to see you soon!!
